چکیده

Adrenocorticotropic hormone administration to guinea pigs resulted in an increase in the content of DNA of adrenal glands and the stimulation of the incorporation of 3H-thymidine into nuclear DNA thereby indicating an induction of DNA synthesis. The activities of thymidine kinase and DNA polymerase of adrenal glands were concomitantly increased following adrenocorticotropic hormone treatment. The response in time of both enzymes to hormone administration was quite similar. No differences were detected in the properties of DNA polymerase of adrenal glands from adrenocorticotropic hormone-treated and control animals. Hormone treatment resulted in the stimulation of DNA polymerase activity in both the nuclear and supernatant fractions. The DNA polymerase activity of nuclei utilizes preferentially native DNA as the primer, whereas the enzyme activity in the supernatant fraction prefers denatured DNA.

A Case of Bilateral Testicular Tumors Subsequently Diagnosed as Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Due to 21-Hydroxylase Deficiency

21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD) caused congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a group of autosomal recessive genetic disorders resulting from mutations in genes involved with cortisol (CO) synthesis in the adrenal glands. Testicular adrenal rest tumors (TARTs) are rarely the presenting symptoms of CAH. Here, we describe a case of simple virilizing CAH with TARTs, in a 15-year-old boy. The p...

Hormonal effects on thymidine kinase activity in normal rat adrenal and in hormone-dependent adrenal carcinoma.

In estrogen-dependent rat adrenocortical carcinomas, thymidine kinase activity decreased during tumor regression following removal of estrogen from the host. The change in the kinase activity could be prevented by estrogen administration but not by the administration of growth hormone or adrenocorticotropic hormone. The alterations in kinase activity were not due to changes in the activity of c...

Effects of blood sampling procedures, grouping and adrenal stimulation on stress responses in the growing pig.

Changes in the blood and the behaviour of 14 growing pigs from 4 different litters were evaluated under different experimental conditions of blood sampling, grouping and adrenal stimulation. The results showed that the different techniques of blood sampling influenced lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine kinase (CK) activities. Cortisol, proteins and CK levels were negatively correlated with...

Studies on the mechanism of action of the adrenocorticotropic hormone.

It has been demonstrated that adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulates isolated, perfused adrenal glands (1) and adrenocortical tissue slices (2, 3) to release increased quantities of corticosteroid hormones. These findings are in accord with the well established fact that ACTH in tivo causes the adrenal cortex to secrete increased quantities of the adrenal steroid hormones. The present wo...
